About the World Notariat University (WNU) “Jean-Paul DECORPS”

Training and confrontation of practitioners with international situations, in order to develop common notarial solutions.

The World Notariat University, created by French notary Jean-Paul DECORPS, is an academic training program offered by the UINL in Spanish, French and English. It intends to enable the understanding and application of the concepts of comparative law and international law through exchanges of good notarial practices.

Objectives

  • Promote the exchange of best notarial practices between young notaries, and facilitate the implementation of international proceedings;
  • Raise awareness of the globalization of legal relationships and the role that notaries must play for citizens and public authorities;
  • Strengthen participants’ skills by offering them high-quality academic training and enabling them to apply their knowledge in case studies;
  • Present the final works at the UINL International Congress every three years;
  • Create working networks between the participants.

Teaching method

Remote preparatory cycle: preparatory work organized by the Professor around a group, assigned to one of the four poles of the theme (notably by means of intermediate webinars and online exchanges between students and Professor).

Final seminar: only students who have taken part in the preparatory cycle can take part in the final seminar. The final seminar takes place over a one-week period, in the form of workshops between the Professor and his students.

Theme

The training cycle is organized around the following transversal theme, fixed for the duration of the legislature (2026-2028):

International mobility and legal certainty

Challenges for Notaries – Responses from the Notarial Profession

This theme is addressed through five modules, each led by a Professor:

  • FAMILY (Prof. Cristina Armella, Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina and notary), in Spanish
  • PERSON (Prof. Christine Morin, Professor at the University of Laval, Québec, Canada and notary emeritus), in French
  • ESTATE (Prof.em. Luc Weyts, University of Louvain, Belgium and notary emeritus),
    in English
  • SUCCESSIONS (Prof.em. Michel Grimaldi, University PANTHEON-ASSAS, Paris, France), in French
  • CORPORATE LAW/ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING (Prof. Birgit Snijder-Kuipers, Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands), in English

Scientific Director: French notary Thierry Vachon

Student Selection

Candidates: The course is aimed primarily at candidate notaries, trainee notaries or young notaries with a good legal education but little notarial experience (aged under 35 or with less than five years’ professional experience), and preferably who have not taken part in any previous edition of the University.

Selection procedure: Letter of application with Curriculum Vitae, submitted and approved by the National Chamber or National Council of each Notariat.

The selection of candidates is established by each Member Notariat.

As the total number of students is limited, UINL reserves the right to limit the number of participants admitted for each country according to the applications received. Each Notariat is entitled to present 1 or 2 students.

At the end of the training, participants receive:

  • Certificate of participation;
  • All working documents;
  • Proposal to attend the triennial International Congress of Notaries with a special fee;
  • Registration to the WNU global alumni network.

Registration fees

Participants admitted to UNM courses are required to pay a registration fee.

Registration fees are payable by bank transfer on receipt of validation of the application by UINL.
