26/05/2019 On May 24, 2019, Carlos Lesmes, President of the General Council of the Judiciary and the Supreme Court of Spain, inaugurated the International Seminar of the Judges and Notaries at the Notarial College of Valencia (Spain).
At the inauguration, Carlos Lesmes was accompanied by the president of the International Union of Notaries, José Marqueño; the First Vice President of the International Union of Judges, José Manuel Igreja; the Secretary General of the International Union of Judges, Giacomo Oberto; and the President of the General Council of Spanish Notaries, José Ángel Martínez Sanchiz.
"Legal certainty at the supranational level is a fundamental element of our development as advanced societies," he explains.
Thus, he presented this meeting as "an example of international and interprofessional collaboration at a time characterized by the elimination of barriers between different countries and professions".
He also reminded the judges and notaries in the room that "respect for individual freedoms must be an inherent and necessary condition of the new world reality. It is only from this principle that globalization will generate benefits, and we will all play a transcendental role. "
He also stressed that these two professions pursue "the same objective, the consolidation of the rule of law as an essential framework for coexistence, legal certainty as a key to economic progress and an adequate service to citizens as ultimate goal of our activity ".
In conclusion, the President of the Supreme Court and the General Council of the Judiciary stressed that today, "judges and notaries are essential to a quality justice that affects citizens around the world, with legal certainty as a principle of justice, to achieve a more just world, a better world. "
For his part, the President of the International Union of Notaries, José Marqueño, emphasized the current importance of the notarial title that "brings together all the guarantees to ensure a fairer justice".
